World We Imagine Part 1
Thinking about this quote and how to build a future in general, I freely write and think here to consider what that means.
What first comes to mind when I think about this is how can we all decide on what a positive future is? Struggles and conflict has been a long lasting component of human interaction because we all can’t seem to agree on one way of life. I completely agree this is the case, there is no one way to live life. We all are unique individuals. The question is, is there some super-compromise that we can make as humans? Happiness for example is something that I find could be a unanimous tie for everyone. We may not all agree on how we reach happiness…
I stopped myself in this freewrite just now, because I felt I was contradicting my ideas already. I think I found what’s key to this assignment, imagination. When you imagine something there are no wrong answers, all possibilities are available. So what I hope to do with my team is think big and somehow create an abstract roadmap to how we can get there.
To the prompt itself the first step is what I had begun to think about previously. What does a better world look like? What are the cohesive traits that can get us there, like happiness or love, what are the values to unite the world?
Following this dream of happiness in the real world starts with myself. If I do and act in ways to make me happy how can I help others feel the same? After I graduate, in a selfish-unselfish way I need to get myself to a great place before being able to bring others there too.
What I see in my path in following this dream is similar to Jacqueline’s experiences in the Blue Sweater. Just like her, I have to throw myself in. I can’t get discouraged when my ideas don’t go as planned and when a roadblock gets in the way. If I remain persistent and grounded in my ideas I will maintain the confidence to make them a reality.
Jordan,
ReplyDeleteThis post reminds me of the cup of happiness analogy, where people need to make sure they can nourish their own cups and wellbeings before being able to successfully fill other's cups. I think it is important to take care of yourself in order to put yourself in the best position to help everyone around you, starting with friends and family and building outwards towards eventually being able to help out people in your community or world around you - even if it's only one person, one change makes a difference!
Taking time to reflect and journal could be a good way to do this, considering journaling will allow you to reflect and better yourself while brainstorming future ways to help people around you.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading how open you were with expressing your thoughts as they came. I too find myself pondering what the "best way" to live life is and often have to remind myself that there is no right answer, just as you said. A huge aspect to this realization is being open-minded- both with regards to your own life and the experiences it may throw at you and with regards to judging others' way of life. I think once you learn that there is no clear right or wrong in how you live your life, it becomes a lot easier to appreciate other people diverse choices. I think working on being grounded in yourself and your values is a great place to start. Or even just having conversations with other people about what makes them happy and what they believe in.
ReplyDeleteI think self-reflection is a a necessary of part of human development and growth. If we all had the mentality you describe above the world would most definitely be a better place. I also agree with your idea that achieving self-happiness is the first step in making a positive difference in the lives of others. It's like that mentality of dating, if you don't love yourself how can you expect another person to love you, if that makes sense. I also think persistency is key and staying focused on achieving the bigger picture when you are faced with obstacles along the way. If you work hard enough to make yourself happy and achieve your life of fulfillment, you can then go on to make a difference in those around you. I liked your take on this quote!
