If I could write about anything, I’d probably write about my favorite thing: New York Yankees Baseball. Conveniently enough spring training for all of baseball starts right now at the end of February. As many in sports claim; there is no offseason, and I agree. Over the past few months there hasn’t been any actual gameplay, however there has been a great shakeup of rules. Unfortunately Yankees fans are getting restless (myself included), as the winnest franchise in all of sports has had some heartbreak in recent times and hasn’t been on top since 2009. To give an outlook on their upcoming season it would be useful to understand the new rule changes coming to baseball this season and how they will affect the Yankees. First there are three major rule changes to baseball this season. There will now be a 20-second pitch clock. This clock is the allotted time that the batter must be ready to bat and the pitcher must throw the ball. The rule is being implemented to reduce game time. As a way...

Book 1 Post 2

Reiterating from my last post I chose to read Gloria Steinem’s My Life on the Road . I chose this book because hearing stories about different people’s lives and cultures through traveling is one of my greatest joys. Through reading this book I was hoping to understand how one can live on the road as well as listen to entertaining stories and situations Steinem went through. I felt the book just missed my expectations. There were parts where I was compelled by a story she was telling, but there were other parts that weren’t stories and just felt out of place and less interesting. Lastly, now that I have finished this book I am looking to read another similar book recommended to me called The Motorcycle Diaries: Notes on a Latin American Journey . This book is about Ernesto Che Guevara’s journey around South America with his motorcycle. In reading both these books I hope to find a lot of interesting stories on what it’s like to live on the road.     Through Steinem’s sto...

The Wizard of Odds Practical strategies to win in poker By Jordan Diamond “All in,” you say, pushing your chips toward the middle of the table. “You fool! I read Jordan Diamond’s article on poker strategies. I’ve done millions of calculations and simulations in my head; the probability of me winning is overwhelming.” Your buddy maniacally chuckles holding up this very article. You both flip over your cards, and you have, in fact, lost. You rip the article out of their hands and exclaim: “I’ll be back!” (cue intense music and Marvel’s intro animation). By following the strategies explained here you can become the “Wizard of Odds” and a super poker player that no one wants to play against. I am teaching you the Texas Hold’em variation of poker because it’s the most popular version played in casinos, professionally, and in a dimly lit gangster film. To become an ace in the poker world, I will explain the rules of the game, then describe two major strategies that, when combined, will becom...

Book 1 Post 1: My Life on the Road

For my book I chose to read Gloria Steinem’s My Life on the Road . I chose this book because I was inspired by Steinem’s ability to live without a home and constantly be traveling. Hearing stories about different people’s lives and cultures by traveling all over the world is one of my greatest joys. Steinem’s passion has shown through all her travels. Learning about women and feminist ideals was a driving force for her. In my life I truly would like to live on the road as Steinem would say, but I am not sure what my passion and drive would be. Through reading this book I was hoping to understand how one can live on the road as well as how to find that topical curiosity to explore as you go. Lastly, I was inspired to read this in conjunction with another book I have started to read. At a club dinner, I had met an Iranian doctoral student that described his journey as a persecuted jew from Iran. He too lived a very on-the-road lifestyle. After telling him I would like...
