World We Dare to Imagine Part 3

Talking Box on Campus Storytelling Space and Anonymous Therapy for Students   “If only there was someone to talk to!” and “Does anyone else feel like this?” are just a few thoughts that race through a college student's head when struggling with mental health. Talking Box on Campus is an initiative to provide a safe, anonymous space for students to share their stories and listen to those of others. What our company will facilitate is on partnering U.S. campuses, providing a space on campus that has an automated recording studio for students to go in and talk about what they are struggling with. We then as a company will take the recordings and create podcasts on major topics students are struggling with and complement it with therapeutic advice. Imagine you’re starting your senior year and the anxiety builds over graduating. You head to the student union and go inside the Talking Box on Campus. After a deep breath you speak through your anxiety into a microphone. The next week you f...

World We Imagine Part 1

Thinking about this quote and how to build a future in general, I freely write and think here to consider what that means. What first comes to mind when I think about this is how can we all decide on what a positive future is? Struggles and conflict has been a long lasting component of human interaction because we all can’t seem to agree on one way of life. I completely agree this is the case, there is no one way to live life. We all are unique individuals. The question is, is there some super-compromise that we can make as humans? Happiness for example is something that I find could be a unanimous tie for everyone. We may not all agree on how we reach happiness… I stopped myself in this freewrite just now, because I felt I was contradicting my ideas already. I think I found what’s key to this assignment, imagination. When you imagine something there are no wrong answers, all possibilities are available. So what I hope to do with my team is think big and somehow create an abstract road...

Random Post 2

One of my other passions beyond sports is the themed entertainment industry. In this random post I will provide you with a cool rumor by Disney I recently heard about and some brainstorm ideas. Recently in a targeted ad (thanks google) I found an article that rumored Disney in Orlando is planning to open another theme park by 2032 creating a whopping total of 5 parks (excluding water parks). Upon further research it is both just an idea and a forgone conclusion. Disney has only used about 25% of usable land they own in Orlando. Universal, their rival is already having their 3rd park being built and will be done by 2025. Take this with Disney loving stretching every dollar you own and it seems certain they will find a way to make this 5th park a reality. To think of some ideas for what this new park would be I would first lean towards something similar to what Disney has in Tokyo with the DisneySea park. Parks in general work best when they are centered around a large theme like t...

Book 2, Post 2

For book 2 I completed How to Grow an Unshakeable Core of Calm, Strength, and Happiness by Rick Hanson. Reflecting back on my first post I chose this book originally because I thought this book would provide me skills and opportunities in any setting to try to be more calm and happy. Having read similar books to this one I was also drawn by the general idea of mindfulness and well-being. The book was a simple read and I have a few critiques, however, overwhelmingly I have a positive review of the book. To begin with what I did like, the structure of the book worked well for me. Every chapter began with a little anecdote of the author from their own life, like in the chapter on grit the author began by retelling a snowshoe hiking experience they had. It was then followed by a deep discussion into the topic complemented with scientific discussions on psychology and the brain. In addition each chapter would have multiple applications and real life examples. The chapters would then conclu...

Book 2, Post 1

For book 2 I chose to read How to Grow an Unshakeable Core of Calm, Strength, and Happiness by Rick Hanson. I liked the theme of many of the options but I thought this one would be most beneficial to me. I think the ideas presented in this book would help me in nearly any situation. Whether it be at school, work, or even in a social setting, finding ways to be happy and calm are exciting to me. I’ve read similar books to this one that give strategies on well-being and mindfulness so I see this book giving me more tools and skills to help me build this unshakeable core. The book was also simply appealing because I found a free pdf online and it appeared shorter than most of the other books.   So far I have read through the first couple of chapters and I am enjoying it. I think the way the book is written is appealing to my logical and analytical mind. The author in the introduction sets out the foundation on why he’s writing this book as well as an organized structure to how...
