Random Post 2

One of my other passions beyond sports is the themed entertainment industry. In this random post I will provide you with a cool rumor by Disney I recently heard about and some brainstorm ideas. Recently in a targeted ad (thanks google) I found an article that rumored Disney in Orlando is planning to open another theme park by 2032 creating a whopping total of 5 parks (excluding water parks). Upon further research it is both just an idea and a forgone conclusion. Disney has only used about 25% of usable land they own in Orlando. Universal, their rival is already having their 3rd park being built and will be done by 2025. Take this with Disney loving stretching every dollar you own and it seems certain they will find a way to make this 5th park a reality.
To think of some ideas for what this new park would be I would first lean towards something similar to what Disney has in Tokyo with the DisneySea park. Parks in general work best when they are centered around a large theme like the ocean, or animals (take Animal Kingdom). So although a Marvel theme park could be cool, there is too limited intellectual property to work with in my opinion. I could also see something surrounding the environment and nature. From another article I read there used to be this concept of a “Beastly Kingdom” of mythical creatures that was supposed to be done in Animal Kingdom but was replaced by their Avatar land. The writer of this article says the secret to its delay is because it may be the big concept for an entire new park.
There are many pros and cons of a new park from the consumer perspective. Pros would be new rides and experiences of course, in addition to less crowded parks. Unfortunately though this would make Disney an even more expensive adventure. Maybe at some point in the distant future one may have to stay an entire month at Disney to get everything done. Another con to consider is Disney may have to increase their intellectual property. To have more rides they would have to push even more content onto consumers, and many feel Disney+ among other media outlets already has too much content. Not only would a new park potentially dilute the brand but will also dilute the time and effort dedicated to the current parks they already have. Each park getting a new ride or update will certainly take longer when there is a whole new park to worry about maintaining.
In the comments share any ideas you have for a new park, I would love to discuss!
This is so cool! I had no idea Disney was planning to open a new park or that Universal is already building one. I think a "Beastly Kingdom" concept would be interesting, but I'd also love to see a park related to Disney original movies and TV shows... with like a Wizards of Waverly Place ride or Halloweentown. I'm not sure these examples would appeal to the younger Disney crowd, but maybe they could have a mix of older/iconic and newer things.
ReplyDeleteI love going to Disneyland and Universal Studios, but i never thought about that the 2 companies may open new parks in the future! I think a sea kingdom theme like the park in Tokyo would be awesome, but then the prices would be much more expensive. Great post!
ReplyDeleteIt would be super interesting to see what Disney does if they were to make a new park. I wonder how much more merch and shows they will have to release to make that happen. I'm not a huge Disney person but I think it would definitely be cool to see a park with more of the current shows and movies like the avatar land.
ReplyDeleteI also did not know that Disney was planning on opening a new park. A park dedicated to Marvel would be super cool, but I also agree about the intellectual property. I do like Abby's idea of park dedicated to older Disney original movies and shows!!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I have yet to visit Disney World in Orlando, a new addition to the park is very exciting. I have also heard the fact that Disney has only utilized 25% of its land in Orlando, which is remarkable considering the wide variety of business ventures Disney operates in just Orlando. I am interested to see what Disney will actually end up revealing as their new addition, as the park is lacking an innovative new attraction.
